iPhone 14: Only the Pro models reportedly get new A16 chip
Apple seems to be pursuing a new product strategy this year, deteriorating the base iPhones a bit compared to the Pro models. The decision could be related to the semiconductor shortage.
In September, Apple will most likely unveil four new iPhone 14 models, two of which will be base and two Pro. In all likelihood, there will no longer be a mini model, but only devices with 6.1- and 6.7-inch screens. In the past, the Pro models differed from the slightly cheaper iPhones mainly by better cameras, more RAM and better displays. If you believe the highly reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, then Apple will also install different chips this year.
Analyst: Only the iPhone 14 Pro with A16 Bionic processor
TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has commented on Twitter about the next iPhone models via his account, which has been used sporadically so far. Based on his information from the supply chain, he predicts that only the Pro models will be equipped with Apple's new A16 SoC, which is to be based on the smaller four-nanometer process. The basic models will continue to be equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, which will be manufactured using the five-nanometer process.
Only two Pro models would upgrade to the A16 processor, while the 14 & 14 Max will remain the A15. All four new models will likely come with 6GB RAM, with the difference being LPDDR 5 (14 Pro & 14 Pro Max) vs. LPDDR 4X (14 & 14 Max). https://t.co/tHcszIz6gX

The A15-Bionic is already installed in the current iPhone 13 models. For Apple, it would be a novelty to equip its new model generation without a new generation of processors. Sure: The A15 chips are extremely high-performance, but the iPhone 14 models would tend not to receive a performance boost compared to their predecessor. One reason for Apple's presumed decision is likely to be found in the ongoing semiconductor shortages.
As 9to5 Mac writes, it would be the first time in nearly a decade that Apple has distinguished its iPhone models according to the type of processors used. The last time Apple had equipped the iPhone 5S with the A7 chip in 2013, while the cheaper iPhone 5C received the one-year-old A6 chip.
All iPhone 14 models with 6 gigabytes of RAM
Ming-Chi Kuo goes on to say that all new iPhone models will receive six gigabytes of RAM. Apple had recently installed four gigabytes of RAM in the base devices. Nevertheless, there are differences: The Pro versions with A16 SoC are said to have faster DDR5X RAM installed, while the iPhone 14 and 14 Max would be equipped with DDR4X Ram.
Kuo also confirmed on Twitter that Apple will replace the Mini with a larger base model this year. According to the naming scheme, the upcoming devices iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max as well as iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are to be baptized.
