The company Facebook changes its name. Why Meta?
Mark Zuckerberg announced in his last speech that Facebook is changing its name to Meta. Thus, he confirmed the reports that had been circulating on the Internet for some time.
Zuckerberg argued that the name of Facebook does not fully cover everything the company is currently dealing with. It is also closely related to really only one product. There are already at least a few of them now, and there will be many more in the future.
Facebook changes its name to Meta. What does it mean?
The new name is to better reflect all the ambitions and intentions of the company's representatives. The plans include an evolution from a social network to a metaverse business. Zuckerberg emphasizes that both augmented and virtual reality are of great importance for the entire organization. It is on the basis of such technologies that Mark wants to create the future of the Internet.
It should also be emphasized that rebranding does not mean changes in the nomenclature of the main websites and services of this company. Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp will of course be available under their current names. From the user's point of view, not much will change, although it is quite possible that in the future they will receive strictly metaverse-oriented solutions. Access to the virtual world will be possible thanks to solutions in the field of virtual and augmented reality, including products such as Oculus Quest or Project Cambria.
What else is changing?
Zuckerberg also announced that the company's corporate structure will not change. However, reporting of financial results will look different. These will be disclosed per two sectors. Starting from the results for the fourth quarter of this year, the results of two operating segments will be published - Family of Apps and Reality Labs. Importantly, from December 1 this year, the company will operate on the stock exchange under the abbreviated name of MVRS.
