Review of Xiaomi Soundbar - it really sounds like that ?!
The Xiaomi soundbar that I received for testing was a really big surprise for me. Oh, one day a courier came and handed me a package. It is true that I had the impression that someone mistook the soundbar for a baseball bat and used it that way, but well. The first soundbar finally arrived in my home.
The first soundbar ?! Yes, it is exactly as you read. I've never had a soundbar at home before. I always wanted him, but there was always something more important. Some kind of washing machine, fridge or car. And this is how I lived day by day, until the Xiaomi soundbar appeared in my life.
Xiaomi soundbar - nice, nice!
After taking the soundbar out of the box (which was not difficult, because the box just fell apart in my hands), it turned out to be a really elegant piece of equipment. The Xiaomi soundbar is a single bar without an additional subwoofer. So all the sound comes from this beam. The front is fabric, the rest is made of plastic rounded on the sides.
The device measures 830 mm x 72 mm x 87 mm and weighs less than 2 kilograms. My soundbar is black and gray. I think the white and gray version would fit better, but my color version is ok too, it fits at least with the TV.
There are several buttons at the top of the device:
- "+" And "-" - are responsible for increasing or decreasing the volume of the music on the device itself - practically never used 😉
- Bluetooth button to start pairing with a new device;
- Aux in;
- Line in;
- SFPDIF;
- Optical.
I will describe their application in more detail later. Overall, the soundbar makes a really good impression. It looks solid and minimalist. I prefer such solutions than other, more "cosmic" ones.
How to connect to the soundbar?
I will move on to how to connect to the soundbar, because there are several ways, as suggested by the buttons at the top. You can connect to it wirelessly (Bluetooth) and wired using an AUX, optical and SFPIDF cable.
Cable connectivity will be more stable and better than wireless. Especially since Bluetooth 4.2 is here, not 5.0. Therefore, it is best to connect a cable, for example, to a TV set, and use Bluetooth to, for example, play a song from a phone or computer.
Sound quality and the Xiaomi soundbar
First, some technical information. The soundbar has 8 speakers, 4 speakers for one side. Four speakers give us 14W, which in effect gives 28W of power for the entire device. The frequency range is 50-25,000 Hz and the nominal impedance is 6 Ω.
As for the quality of the music, it is really satisfactory, especially the bass can be heard very well. In my eyes, the smallest volume level is a bit too loud and does not allow, for example, an easy conversation.
Every day with a soundbar
I have had a soundbar in my apartment for several weeks now. Connected to the TV, it fulfills its function, although not completely. On TV I have support for Dolby Atmos, in Apple Music for the Loseless standard, and this soundbar does not have it. But remember that this is a low-cost equipment.
The device connects via Bluetooth quite quickly. Communication never broke off. Of course, if you want to use it every day to watch TV or play games, be sure to plug it in via a cable. Wirelessly, the audio delay is audible.
